Non-Perishable Food
FOOD for Bug-Out-Bag
Carry at least a 3 day supply per person of non-perishable food (when no refrigeration or cooking is available). Pack food that you and your family like.
Suggestion 1:
Protein or Granola bars; trail mix, dried fruit, nuts, jerky; crackers, cereals; candy, gum (for snacks); canned protein sources – chicken, tuna, beans, turkey, beef, Vienna Sausages, etc.
The following list is a great example of non-perishable food for one day for one adult, by Patty Johnson. She put this list together for our Ward Emergency Preparedness Fair last year. Each day’s food supply was in its own zip lock bag for easy organization.

Note: Estimates range from 1,600 to 2,400 calories per day for adult women and 2,000 to 3,000 calories per day for adult men.
Suggestion 2:
Another option if you want a hot meal without having to use clean drinking water or a heat source, is the self-heating meals like OMeals. I like to have at least one hot meal a day, so I keep several of these in my pack. I also carry some canned protein and snack items.
Each bag has a ready to eat meal, salt and pepper, napkin, eating utensil, and a heating pad. All you need to do is add 3-4 oz. of any liquid to the bag. This could be dirty creek water, soda, juice, any liquid. Keep the clean water to drink!

Please let me know if you have a food source that you really like. I learn a lot from what others are doing!
