Ham Radio Courses and Licensing

What is Ham Radio?

Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) is a wireless communication service, regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), that doesn't rely on cell phone towers or the internet!  Anyone of any age, who is not a representative of a foreign government, can be an amateur radio operator in the US.  But, before you can get on the air, you’ll need to be licensed.  Below is information about how to get your amateur radio license.

How to Get Your Amateur Radio License!

The Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) is the national association for Amateur Radio in the USA and was founded in 1914 by Hiram Percy Maxim.  The ARRL website is a great place to learn about how to get your license!  There are three types of licenses:

Technician License (entry level) - Application/Exam fee $35. License fee $10 and it's good for 10 years!  The exam has 35 questions (need 27 correct answers to pass).

General License (mid level) - Application/Exam fee $35. License fee $10 and it's good for 10 years!  The exam has 35 questions (need 27 correct answers to pass).

Amateur Extra License (highest level) - Application/Exam fee $35. License fee $10 and it's good for 10 years!  The exam has 50 questions.
