FCC License
Get Your GMRS License
You may apply for a GMRS license if you are 18 years or older and not a representative of a foreign government. If you receive a license, any family member, regardless of age, can operate GMRS stations and handheld walkie-talkies within the licensed system.
NO TEST!! (just complete the application and pay the $35 fee)
GMRS license fee is $35 for 10 years!
One license for all immediate family members: “spouse, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, parents, grandparents, stepparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.” Title 47 FCR, Part 95.1705 (c), (2)
The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) issues the GMRS license. It's quite a convoluted and clunky process, so there are some helpful aids (below) to help you navigate through the process.
The licensing steps include:
Create a User Account, then verify your User Account.
Register for a new Federal Registration Number (FRN).
Note: Ham operators already have a FRN, so they can skip steps 1 &2, and go directly to step 3.
Apply for your GMRS license.
Pay $35 license fee.
Receive your GMRS license in 2-3 working days via an email link.
